A census place, not the whole mountain

The Census Bureau's 2025 Gazetteer lists Mowbray Mountain as a census designated place in Hamilton County with about 20.2 square miles of land and no recorded water area. The 2020 census counted 1,705 residents. A census place is a statistical area, so it is not the entire ridge, and wooded land beyond its line may belong to a neighboring community.

The Gazetteer's centroid coordinates put the place west of the city of Soddy Daisy, though a centroid is one point and not a boundary. Because the lines can be hard to see on the ground, give us your road name and a nearby reference, and confirm which fire district and local office cover your address.

Public references for finding your land

Hamilton County Parks lists Mowbray Park with a basketball court, a shelter, a ball field, a playground beside the pavilion, and a walking track of 0.20 of a mile. The Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department says it has served since 1979 and describes a 40 square mile service territory with about 3,000 people and more than 1,500 homes, businesses, churches, and a state park.

That territory belongs to the department, not to the census place, so do not read it as a boundary. A Channel 9 report also describes Three Gorges Farms, on Mowbray Mountain, as land being developed into a gated community with climbing areas. These are places you may know, not facts about any parcel, and we never assume access across private land.

Opening wooded ground carefully

Ground clearing opens selected areas for future landscape use. On forested land the first job is deciding what stays. Mark mature hardwoods, any drainage lines, and the route a drive or equipment must take. Tree removal is a separate approved service and belongs in your request when a specific tree is involved.

Overgrown property cleanup helps when a lot has become hard to walk. The company supplied tree work photo shows a general work setting, not a Mowbray Mountain property. Tell us the slope, the access limits, and any gates before we discuss scope.

Questions about gravel drives and grading

A cleared site usually needs a way in. Describe the existing track, its width, and how it connects to the public road. Ridgetop drives carry runoff, so mention where water crosses or collects along the route.

Excavation and grading may help shape a drive or a building pad area, but the details depend on your plans. Tell us what you intend to build or plant, and note any boundary markers you know. We will not assume anything about rock, soil, or permitted uses until you confirm the facts with the proper authorities.

A wooded ridge community also means you may share a road, a drainage ditch, or a fence line with neighbors. If any part of your project touches shared ground, say so plainly and confirm who may approve work there before any clearing is discussed.

Questions about work near Mowbray Mountain

Does a Mowbray Mountain page cover the whole ridge?

No. It addresses the census designated place of that name. If you are elsewhere on the ridge, tell us your road and nearest community and we will discuss your location.

Is the fire department territory the same as the community?

No. The Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department describes its own 40 square mile service territory. It is a useful reference but not a census or municipal boundary.

How should I describe access to a ridgetop lot?

Mention the road, the drive, any gates, and slope at the entrance. Access affects how clearing and excavation can be planned.

Is tree removal part of clearing?

They are separate approved services. Identify each tree you want removed and mark those you want to keep so the scope is clear.
