Decatur is the county seat of Meigs County, founded in May 1836, when James Lillard and Leonard Brooks donated the first 50 acres. It had 1,563 residents in 2020, and the 2025 Gazetteer lists about 3.8 square miles of land. Meigs County calls itself the Shoreline County.
This is not a Hamilton County community. County offices that handle records and permits are Meigs County offices, so ask them first and tell us what applies.
A small county seat often mixes older homes and newer structures on the same street. Older yards may have mature trees whose roots cross the path of a line, while newer lots may be bare. Tell us which describes your yard so that we can talk about digging for lines and protecting what you want to keep.
The town sits at the western base of No Pone Ridge. Just west, the Tennessee River flows around a peninsula known as Armstrong Bend, part of Chickamauga Lake. State Route 30 connects it to Athens and Dayton, and State Route 58 leads to Kingston and Chattanooga.
The ridge, the lake, and the roads are good references. They do not tell us about moisture or slope on your lot, so describe how your yard behaves in a dry week and after a storm.
Irrigation system installation can reflect the planting and lawn areas that need water. Identify existing water access, separate beds from open lawn, and think about where controls can be reached. A layout works best when it follows how the yard is used.
If a system already exists, irrigation system repair begins with the affected area. A zone that does not start or a head that sprays unevenly can help describe the issue. Lawn maintenance can then keep the finished areas in view. Our image is generated, not a Decatur yard.

Irrigation depends on a reliable water source. Tell us where the spigot or supply is, how far it sits from the areas to water, and who controls it. Note whether the lawn has slopes, trees, or beds that need separate zones.
Also describe the daily rhythm of the yard. Children, pets, and outdoor dining all affect where heads and lines should go. We can discuss placement and sequence once the yard use is clear, without assuming a particular saving on water.
